A Message From Kristan Cilente Skendall

Dr. Kristan Cilente Skendall has been a proud college student educator for nearly two decades. After earning her bachelor’s degree at the College of William & Mary, her work brought her to the University of Arizona, where she earned her master’s degree, and later to Georgetown University, the U.S. Department of Education, and the University of Maryland, where she earned her Ph.D. Kristan has been part of the Maryland community since 2005 and loves working with the Gemstone Honors Program, one of the Honors living-learning communities on campus. She also serves as an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the CSP master’s program. Kristan’s research focus is primarily related to college student leadership and living-learning communities. Additionally, Kristan has published several articles and book chapters related to student leadership, alternative spring breaks, multiple identity development, and new professionals needs. Kristan has taught graduate-level courses on research methods, leadership, and student development in addition to undergraduate leadership courses and Gemstone courses. In addition, Kristan has been an active member of ACPA, most recently serving as the Director of External Relations, and also a member is the CAS Council, representing the National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs. She is grateful to ACPA, UMD, her family, and friends for their support—especially John and Will.

In Support of ACPA Foundation

Founded in 1994 during the presidency of Charles Schroeder, the purpose of the ACPA Educational Leadership Foundation (501c3 non-profit organization) is “to enhance the student affairs profession and to generate and disseminate knowledge of college students at all levels within higher education” (Article Three of the Articles of Incorporation). The organization is now known as the ACPA Foundation to more concisely communicate its role as the fundraising arm of ACPA College Student Educators International.

The Mission - The ACPA Foundation exists to support the priorities and activities of ACPA by raising funds and developing resources that help the Association fulfill its mission.

The Vision - The ACPA Foundation will develop sufficient assets to effectively and sustainably fund ACPA’s efforts to provide excellent professional development opportunities to members, advance knowledge in the field, and support the transformative effect of education in the lives of college students.

In order to fulfill its purpose and mission, the Foundation invites members and non-members alike to provide philanthropic support for ACPA's vital initiatives involving research, scholarship, professional development and leadership program.
