A Message From Brian Buford

Brian Buford is the Executive Director for University Culture and Employee Success at the University of Louisville, Kentucky. With 34 years of service to the university, Brian has dedicated his career to building a campus community where all students, faculty, and staff feel welcome, safe, and included. Key achievements under his leadership include opening a staffed LGBT Center in 2007, the first of its kind in Kentucky; earning a five-star rating on the Campus Pride index six years in a row; and leading the effort to being named the most LGBT-welcoming campus in the United States by LGBT Outfitters. In 2020, he launched the Employee Success Center, dedicated to making the university a great place to work by offering opportunities for personal and professional growth to faculty and staff. Brian is a certified Gallup CliftonStrengths coach and helps employees, leaders, and organizations create more engaging workplace cultures focused on the strengths of the team. He co-chairs the Leadership Louisville IncLOUsion Council, where he teaches organizations to leverage the power of employee resource groups as pipelines for emerging leaders. He is the host of the Employee Success Podcast and a frequent guest speaker and consultant on issues of employee engagement, diversity and equity, and LGBTQ inclusion.
Honors include the 2022 Advancement Partner Award, 2021 MLK Scholars Accomplice of the Year award, 2015 Transwomen National Ally Award, 2014 Louisville Metro Council Proclamation, Association of Black Students 2013 Humanitarian Award; Leadership Louisville 2010 Connector. In 2017 he was named the grand marshal of the Kentuckiana Pride Parade and in 2019 he was a featured panelist at an event honoring him and three other Louisville Legends in the Making.
He is the namesake of the Brian Buford Endowed LGBT Alumni Scholarship and the Brian Buford
Visionary Award given at the 2018 Pride at the Museum gala.
Personal accomplishments include a thru-hike of the 2,175-mile Appalachian Trail in 2007 and the 500-
mile Camino de Santiago in 2012. Brian uses he/him/his pronouns.

In Support of ACPA Foundation

Founded in 1994 during the presidency of Charles Schroeder, the purpose of the ACPA Educational Leadership Foundation (501c3 non-profit organization) is “to enhance the student affairs profession and to generate and disseminate knowledge of college students at all levels within higher education” (Article Three of the Articles of Incorporation). The organization is now known as the ACPA Foundation to more concisely communicate its role as the fundraising arm of ACPA College Student Educators International.

The Mission - The ACPA Foundation exists to support the priorities and activities of ACPA by raising funds and developing resources that help the Association fulfill its mission. 

The Vision - The ACPA Foundation will develop sufficient assets to effectively and sustainably fund ACPA’s efforts to provide excellent professional development opportunities to members, advance knowledge in the field, and support the transformative effect of education in the lives of college students.

In order to fulfill its purpose and mission, the Foundation invites members and non-members alike to provide philanthropic support for ACPA's vital initiatives involving research, scholarship, professional development and leadership program.
