A Message From David Parrott
Dr. David W. Parrott has served in a variety of administrative roles in higher education at numerous institutions including at the University of Louisville, University of Florida, Texas A&M University, Western Michigan University, and Western Kentucky University including Vice President, Interim Vice President, Executive Associate Vice President and Chief of Staff, Assistant Vice President, Dean of Students, Title IX/ADA Coordinator, Chief of Staff to the VPSA, and Director of Residence Life.
Dr. Parrott earned his doctorate at the University of Louisville in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Student Affairs Administration. His dissertation research focus was racial identity development. Additionally, he holds an M.A. in College Student Personnel and a B.S. in Business Management from Western Kentucky University. Dr. Parrott consults with, and is an invited speaker for, higher education institutions, student affairs staff, university police departments, residence hall staff, civic organizations, and regional and national organizations. He is a seasoned consultant in higher education legal issues, student conduct, threat assessment, and race relations. Dr. Parrott has extensive knowledge of higher education legal and compliance issues related to Student Affairs.
Dr. Parrott has served as adjunct faculty and taught higher education legal issues at the University of Louisville, University of Florida, Texas A&M University, Western Kentucky University, Western Michigan University, and Bowling Green State University where he educated both Student Affairs Master’s and Higher Education Administration Doctoral students. He has served on the faculty for the Gehring Academy, the national training academy for student conduct officials, for the Student Organization Institute, the national training institute for those who supervise or train advisors of student organizations, and the NASPA AVP Institute, the national training institute for Associate and Assistant Vice Presidents for Student Affairs.
Dr. Parrott has served on the Board of Directors for the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) in the following capacities: Director at large, President-elect, President, and immediate past President. He has also served as Chairperson and board member at large for the ASCA Foundation. Additionally, he is active in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and has presented numerous times at both NASPA and ASCA. Dr. Parrott is a charter member of ASCA, an honorary member of the Golden Key Honor Society, and was awarded Life Membership in Delta Sigma Pi - the International Business Fraternity. He is a recipient of ASCA’s highest honor, the Donald D. Gehring Award that is given in recognition of sustained exceptional individual contributions to the field of student conduct administration. Dr. Parrott was also awarded the President’s Award by the National Orientation Directors Association (NODA).
Dr. Parrott is married to Dr. Kelli Peck Parrott, and they have two sons, Jackson (19) who attends Yale and Jason (18) who attends the University of Louisville. Dr. Parrott enjoys his two dogs, being a sports spectator, speaking to groups, kayak fishing, going on day trips with his wife in their Corvette Stingray, customizing garages, and tinkering with his Ford truck.
